Where are you located/based out of? Fredericksburg & Richmond Virginia
Where did your inspiration for photography begin?: With the butterflies and ladybugs in my backyard in Florida
How would you describe your photography style? Beauty Photography
Did you study photography in school or are you self taught? Entirely Self Taught
What is a good lesson you have learned this year in photography or your business?: Be innovative and persistent. Think of different more abstract ways to accomplish my goals. Its ok to take a longer route if it gives me access to more information and gives my work a new edge
If you could encourage a new photographer in one area, what would it be?: Don't give up! It is so easy as an artist to get down on yourself and to be overly critical. DO NOT allow outside influences to demotivate you or to affect your output. You need to be able to provide yourself with ample motivation to keep progressing as an artist.
What’s the best advice you would give the YOU of last year?: The same advice I would give a new photographer I would give to my last-year self. I learned this lesson early this year and it is my most important new practice to date.
What would be your dream photography assignment/client to work with and why?: I would love to shoot for Pat McGrath! She is a Black female icon and drives the cosmetics industry (I am also a makeup artist, I follow her work closely).
Do you feel like you’ve mastered the work/life balance?: Not in the least! I have a small baby. She requires a lot of my attention. So splitting my time between mothering and beauty photography and retouching is sometimes quite an adventure. I am certainly actively working on establishing more of a balance. But it is a work in progress at the moment!
