Q: Do the images have to be taking this year
A: No. there is no date limitation on when the image was taken. You can submit images that are a day old, a month old, and year old.
Q1: How much does it cost to submit to The MelaninLens Magazine?
A1: It’s FREE!
Q2: Who can submit?
A2: The photographer of the submitted images is the only person. Models, set designers, MUA or anyone else involved with the image, can’t not submit. But you can give your team credit.
Q3: What are the qualifications for the photographer?
A3: The photographer must have melanin skin. Submissions are opened to male photographers as well
Q4: How and where do I submit?
A4: There is a link posted under the submission theme every month. It is the same link for each submission period. Submissions end at 11:59 pm est (eastern standard time) on the 21st of every month. Any submissions received after the cut of time of 11:59 pm est, will not be accepted. Any submissions that are not entered through the submission form link, will not be accepted. Q5: What are the image specifications for submission?
A5: High Res, 300 dpi (no less), no watermarks, MAX 10 MB.
Q6: What image(s) will not be accepted?
A6: Submissions taken on train tracks** and nudity (nipples/genitalia) will NOT be published!! * train track photos are dangerous and often illegal *
Q7: How do I know if my image(s) will be published?
A7: The MelaninLens team sends out emails within 72 hours of the submission closing to notify you if your image(s) are chosen for publication. If you don’t receive an email, your image will not be in this issue. * be sure to check spam/junk mail for notifications *

A8: No. The melanin lens is a photography magazine publication. It is not a contest. Thus, there are no rewards given other than being published at this time.
Q9: Will I receive anything for being published?
A9: Free issues will not be given if published

A10: The MelaninLens is a small team dedicated to laying out the magazine, answering your questions, and managing social media. They are available to answer your questions. Direct all questions preferably to themelainlens email themelainlens@gmail.com or via The MelaninLens FB page. Please allow 24 hours to respond.
Q11: Do I have to write a description?
A11: Yes. The requirement is a minimum of 150 words. It can be anything from your conceptualization process to the purpose behind the shoot. It can also be about the person you've photographed. Do not worry about being perfect with your words. Every submission is checked for grammar and spelling.
